Srabanti's father, who was in the army, was a terror for all the boys in their para. Once, her dad actually managed to scare a guy so bad that he didn't return to his home for a couple of days. Turns out, Srabanti, as a teenager had a crush on this boy, who lived right opposite to their place. Since, the guy also liked her, they would communicate through sign language through the windows.
Srabanti's dad, who knew about this kiddy romance, was strictly against it and found out the perfect way to put an end to it. The day before
Rakhi, he went to this boy's place and ordered him to come down to his home the next day, so Srabanti could tie him a Rakhi.
The boy came down the next day, but when Srabanti's father went out to get the Rakhi, he fled the scene and didn't come back for two days. "It was a sweet romantic gesture. He was scared to death of my father, so he couldn't defy him. But he was so adamant about not being called by 'rakhi brother', he ran away," Srabanti said.
And did the affair continue after that? "Oh yes, we would continue ankhon-hi-ankhon-me, even after that. It was my first brush with romance, and it was sweet. But it had to end someday," a nostalgic Srabanti smiled.
