India enjoyed a brief moment in the sun at the

Cannes Film Festival

last week when Kolkata-based young cinematographer

Modhura Palit

was honoured with a special encouragement award during the Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography ceremony. The prestigious award highlights the promising work of young film professionals and will give Modhura a great opportunity to use the best of the Angénieux technology for the images of her next venture. It’s no doubt a proud moment for India.

But how many of you know the young female cinematographer is head the cameraworks of Anjan Kanjilal’s upcoming ‘Sahobase’ which hit the floors on Monday? Stress, long working hours, hectic schedules… have made the lives of Indian youth a little disoriented. That’s what Anjan tries to explore in his first feature film as a director. Madhura returned from Paris on Sunday and there’s no time for relaxation as the shoot started the very next day.

She will also shoot Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s next Bengali short film ‘Rikshawala’. Set in the heartland of Kolkata, incidentally the story of this short is loosely based on various incidents the director had witnessed as a child during his early days in Kolkata.
