Chandrabindoo singer makes his directiorial debut

Anindya Chattopadhyay's Opentee Bioscope boasts of actors like Sudipta, Kaushik Sen, Rajatava, Biswanath etc
It was a busy Wednesday morning for Anindya Chattopadhyay. He was getting behind the camera for the first time and the jitters were only obvious. But that didn’t deter the singer from taking on a new role. With Opentee Bioscope, he is set to make a mark — as a director.
“I was both nervous and excited. But I have a very enthusiastic team,” he said. For Anindya, the day began at 8.45 am, when in the quaint Chatubabu Latubabu para, he set his camera rolling. “The first scene had Fowara (Riddhi Sen) cycling down the lane. There’s magic in the way he moves through the gulleys, runs to the ghat, stands in front of a girls’ school. It’s about a youngster’s journey into adulthood,” said the director. Though he was asked by many if the film is autobiographical, Anindya laughed and said, “Which guy hasn’t stood in front of a girls’ school? It isn’t my story.” Anindya, who is excited to work with a motley group of actors — Sudipta Chakraborty, Paran Bandopadhyay, Kaushik Sen, Rajatava Dutta, Biswanath Basu, Aparajita Adhya — couldn’t stop waxing eloquent about his team. “They are all great actors. But I want the youngsters to shine as well,” he said.
Keeping him company on the sets are many of the singer’s old friends. “Lyricist Prosen is assisting me on this film. Sushanta Basu is the chief assistant director and I know him for many years. Debabrata Roy, scriptwriter of Bhooter Bhobishyot is also part of the team, while Gopi Bhagat is my DoP. My friend, Biplab Sanyal, who lives in Sweden, will be capturing the film’s making on his camera. Above all, there’s Shoojit Sircar. If a director of his calibre is present at the shoot, I don’t think I need to worry,” he said. One couldn’t agree more.
