Chain-snatching incident leaves Amrita Chattopadhyay in shock

Actress Amrita Chattopadhyay and her mother, Sharmita, had a rather shocking experience on Friday evening at

Gariahat

. As the duo were walking down the street, a miscreant snatched the gold chain from Sharmita’s neck and tried to escape. But people in the area caught hold of the man and handed him over to police.
Revealing more about the ordeal, Amrita told us that on Friday, she and her mother had visited a sick relative at a Mullick Bazar-based hospital and were on their way back to their Kasba residence, when they decided to stop at Gariahat for a cup of coffee. As they were crossing the Gariahat Road towards BSS School, someone bumped into Sharmita and started running. “As I turned to look at the person, I heard my mother scream. She had already started running after the man realising that he had snatched her gold chain. Without a second thought, I ran after the well-built man, but couldn’t get close enough,” she said. That’s when Amrita shouted for help, which prompted some passers-by to catch hold of the man. “When we confronted him, he completely denied having anything do with the crime,” the actress added.
Meanwhile, some police officers reached the spot and arrested the man after recovering the chain from his shoes. “The incident was so shocking! This area is almost my para. I did my schooling from Patha Bhavan and have been frequenting the area for the past two decades. I want to thank the people who nabbed the culprit and
