Popular actress
Payel Sarkar was left in shock when she received an indecent message from a
Facebook user who claimed to be filmmaker
Ravi Kinagi. The anonymous user hiding behind the fake profile tried to lure the actress offering her an acting chance. In fact, Payel has already lodged a complaint with Kolkata Police’s cyber cell in this case.
Payel claims she received the friend request from a Facebook profile of Ravi Kinagi last Saturday. Since Ravi is a well-known director in Tollywood giving quite a few hit commercial potboilers like 'Annadata,' 'Champion,' 'I Love You,' 'Love Story,' to name a few, Payal didn’t hesitate to accept the friend request. Payel says many acclaimed directors keep messaging her offering interesting roles in films and serials. The conversation on Messenger started formally but out of nowhere, she was asked, whether she can compromise in exchange for an offer. The actress was stunned to see such an indecent message.
Payel didn’t continue the conversation after that. She then shared a screenshot of the conversation on her social media handle to make people aware of such kinds of scams. Soon the actress reached out to police and lodged a complaint.
“I was literally shocked to receive such an offer. I speak to a number of directors regarding film or TV roles but this didn’t happen to me previously. I have heard about such scams but never thought I have to face it one day. These fake people should be brought to justice. Otherwise many more actresses will face this. It should be stopped. Such evil persons maligning the industry should be identified and put behind the bars,” Payel told ETimes when we reached out to her.
When asked whether there has been any development in the case Payel said investigation is on and there’s some progress. “The Facebook profile has already been deactivated but the cybercrime department has traced the profile. Search is on currently to find the address. I have been assured that the person will be identified soon.”
Payel who recently featured in a docu-feature ‘Pain’ on acid attack victims showing the evil side of society urges everyone, especially aspiring actresses and models to stay away from such scams.
