Manush

Jeet has a penchant for playing characters that have various shades to them (Chengiz, Raavan), and Manush: Child of Destiny is no exception. Directed by Sanjoy Somadder, the film is about an honest police officer Arjun who is out fighting drug smugglers, especially a man called Chhota Mannan (Jeetu). However, with time, Arjun finds himself turning to the dark side as circumstances change for him and he becomes a victim of society and its norms.
Although the storyline is rather predictable, tight editing and appropriate back stories do keep the plot moving at a swift pace. Jeet plays a larger-than-life police officer, tough on criminals, but a good father at the same time. In the opposite spectrum is Mannan who has risen from abject poverty. Throughout the story, their dynamic seems to be the most interesting, and far easier to watch than the lukewarm chemistry the lead pair displays. Saurav Chakravarti as Akbar adds a good comic element in otherwise serious scenes.
The action sequences are shot impeccably, and though there’s a good bit of violence through the course of the film, it’s also quite tightly edited. However, the screenplay is weak, and the characters seem to have sudden change of heart without much of a reason, making their loyalties divided. Furthermore, both the major female characters’ exaggerated expressions and gestures at times impede upon the seriousness of the matter, and it would have been better if diction and dialogue delivery could have been worked upon. This film, however, is a good watch if you are on the hunt for a reckless action flick.
