Story: Hulusthulu deals with the misadventures of a family full of colourful characters.

Review: Director Sujit Chakraborty’s Hulusthulu, disguised as a comedy, makes for dull and dreary viewing. The problem is simple — every line of dialogue is designed to be a punchline. Sure comedy is important in a light-hearted flick, but when every single sentence is intended to draw laughter from the audience, you know something is amiss.

There have been many films where comedy takes centrestage, however, there the comedy is interspersed with a bit of drama and seriousness. Here, the director and scriptwriter tries to make a joke out of everything, resulting in a unnecessarily long and meaningless farce.

Even with established actors like Kharaj Mukherjee and Biswajit Chakraborty in the cast, the movie is a tedious exercise in filmmaking — about which, the less said the better. The audience and films in general deserve better.
