NEW DELHI: Securing an absolute mandate for a second term, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on Thursday dedicated
Bharatiya Janata Party's victory in the 2019
Lok Sabha
elections to the democracy and to its people, saying that he will not do anything for himself.
"This election is not being fought by a political leader or a political party. This election is being fought by the people of India. But those who have their eyes and ears closed, they will not be able to understand it. If anybody has won today it is the democracy and the people," said PM Modi addressing party workers at BJP headquarters in New Delhi.
"But I promise you that the work you have given me in the coming days I will not do anything with bad intentions. There can be mistakes while doing work, but there will be no work that will come out of bad intentions," he said.
PM Modi said that the results of Lok Sabha elections will force the political pundits to change their way of thinking.
The PM said that in this general election "even a single political party could not mislead the country by wearing a mask of secularism." He emphasised how the opposition could not make inflation or corruption an election issue.
"This election has given us a strong foundation to construct our social, public and political life in the 21st century," he said.
For a country that has been criticised for its caste-based politics, PM said that this election has left India with only two castes. "One will be those who are poor and second those who will work to eradicate the poverty," said PM Modi.
Calling the 2019 Lok Sabha elections "the biggest event in the world", PM Modi said that since India got independence, "many elections took place, but the maximum voting took place in this election and that too in 40-42 degree temperature".
PM Modi also said that BJP will "look ahead and take everybody along including our rivals".
BJP president
Amit Shah addressing the party workers before PM's address has said that next five years of Modi government will be a period of BJP's further expansion.
Shah said that he had told the party workers earlier that "we are in the electoral battle to fight for 50 percent of votes. Today I can say with pride that in 17 states, the people have given more than 50 per cent votes to the BJP."
Referring to the massive loss registered by the Mahagathbandhan, Shah said that the 2019 lok sabha results make it clear that "political parties run by families will have no future in Indian politics."
Finally celebrating big win in West Bengal, Shah said that despite violence, BJP managed to gain 18 seats in the state, "This assures us that BJP will continue to establish its domination in Bengal," he said.
