Violent poll in Bengal: Central force firing injures Trinamool worker
KOLKATA: Bengal witnessed violence at several places during the polls for eight
According to election commission,
BJP candidate for Ghatal, Bharati Ghosh, a former IPS officer had to face the wrath of Trinamool workers and she had to take shelter at Keshpur police station. As stones were pelted at her car and one of her party worker accompanying her was injured the central paramilitary force had to lathi charge and open fire.
Deputy election commissioner told the media that central force had to open fire at two places in Bengal. In one such firing Bakhtiar Khan, a Trinamool worker was injured.
SN Gupta, ADG (law and order) of Bengal police said that the central force had opened fire at five places -- Sabang in Midnapore constituency, Keshpur in Ghatal, Moina in Tamluk, Gopiballavpur in Jhargram and Kalabagan in Bishnupur, however police have lodged FIR for Sabang and Keshpur firings.
One booth in Jhargram and two in Purulia had witnessed poll boycott by the voters. In Tamluk, poll was disrupted after an EVM was damaged at Haldia before the polling started.
On Sunday,68.7 lakh male voters and 65.3 lakh female voters turned up in Bengal along with 119 third gender voters to vote for 83 candidates.
