: Five poll officials in the West

Tripura

constituency were suspended on Tuesday on charges of dereliction of duty.

According to the suspension order, micro -observers Sangram Sinha, a professor of botany at Tripura University, and Bhasan Chandra Das, an executive engineer at ONGC, did not mention an incident of poll interruption in their reports, which was termed as willful negligence.

Three presiding officers — Promod Chandra Das, Goutam Debnath and Giridhari Das — have been suspended on charges of abetting booth capturing and promoting corrupt practices. All three are school teachers. “The particular presiding officers were found aiding or conniving in such activities resulting in the furtherance of the prospects of the election of a particular candidate,” the order reads.
