HYDERABAD: The TRS is pulling out all stops to ensure a sure-shot victory for first-timers of the party in five key constituencies in Greater Hyderabad and surrounding districts. The party leadership drafted over a dozen leaders, including ministers, MLAs and former legislators, to canvass extensively and to ensure their win in the April 11 elections.
Springing a surprise, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao fielded newcomers — Marri Rajasekhar Reddy (Malkajgiri), G Ranjith Reddy (Chevella), Talasani Sai Kiran (Secunderabad), Vemireddy Narasimha Reddy (Nalgonda) and Manne Srinivas Reddy (Mahbubnagar) — to not only take on senior leaders from the opposition parties but also come up trumps. KCR, who is closely monitoring the campaign and working out strategies, made it clear to party working president KT Rama Rao to concentrate on these constituencies and hold roadshows and meetings to boost the morale of the newbies.
If Rajasekhar is crossing swords with firebrand Congress working president A Revanth Reddy and senior advocate N Ramchander Rao (BJP) in Malkajgiri, Narasimha Reddy is taking on TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy and Garlapati Jitender Kumar (BJP) in Nalgonda. Ranjith is gearing up for a tough battle against sitting MP Konda Vishveshwar Reddy (Congress) and B Janardhan Reddy of BJP in Chevella, while Sai Kiran is up against two-time MP Anjan Kumar Yadav (Congress) and three-time MLA G Kishan Reddy (BJP) in Secunderabad. Mahbubnagar race got a fresh momentum with DK Aruna (BJP) entering the fray. Srinivas will have his task cut out as former MLA Challa Vamshi Chand Reddy is testing his luck on a Congress ticket.
“The party leadership has given tickets to newcomers to give them an opportunity to serve people. As they are new to electoral politics, ministers and MLAs will do their bit in guiding them and running a successful campaign,” a senior leader told TOI. Buoyed by the Kodangal assembly poll result where Revanth bit the dust at the hands of TRS’s Patnam Narender Reddy, the party is going all out in Malkajgiri to see that Revanth tastes another defeat. Apart from getting minister and Medchal MLA Ch Malla Reddy in the thick of action, the party also roped in sitting MLAs from Assembly constituencies and party leaders like Naveen Rao and Rakesh.
