In absence of translator, crowd disperses from Yogi Adityanath’s meeting
HYDERABAD: Minutes after Yogi Adityanath began tearing into the ruling TRS party during a public meeting at Yellareddy in Kamareddy district on Sunday, many from the crowd left the venue as they failed to understand what the Uttar Pradesh chief minister was saying in Hindi.
Local BJP leaders from Zaheerabad managed to mobilize crowd for Adityanath’s meeting, but most of the Teluguspeaking women said they couldn’t understand a word. “We didn’t understand what he was saying. BJP leaders, who made us come all the way to attend the meeting, should have at least got a translator,” said a women at the public meeting.
Generally, one of the local BJP leaders who attend the meetings, like BJP state president K Laxman or party general secretary Muralidhar Rao, translate the speeches given by national leaders. However, this time the BJP candidate did not arrange a translator.
During recent Mahbubnagar rally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had started his speech in Hindi, but as soon as he realised that people were not responding, he asked Laxman to translate it in Telugu.
Interestingly, Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh, who prefers to speak in Hindi, spoke in Telugu, which evoked good response from the crowd. Singh called KCR a liar and cheater and said the TRS government was misleading people on Central schemes and financial assistance. “I had asked for information on financial support from the Centre to the state government, but KCR on the floor of the House said the state has not received a single rupee from the Centre,” Singh said.
