BJP seeking votes with positive agenda: Hardeep Singh Puri
HYDERABAD: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has gone to the people with a positive agenda, Union minister for housing and urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri has said. He said the NDA government had taken up many schemes with commitment despite facing hardship and problems. At the same time, the government did not compromise on safety and security issues and corruption, he added.
He said this poll was qualitatively different compared to other elections held in the country. “Generally, parties in power hesitate to talk about development due to the anti-incumbency factor. But the Modi government is seeking vote with the confidence that it has ensured development during its five-year tenure of the kind never seen before in the past 70 years,” the Union minister said.
Addressing a press conference along with party spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain at the BJP Telangana unit’s headquarters here on Monday, Hardeep Singh Puri said some parties, including regional parties, were uniting with only one agenda — to defeat Modi — and they want a hung Parliament. “If there is a hung Parliament, these regional parties can put forth their demand and get their works done,” Hardeep Singh said.
The Union housing minister said 79 lakh houses were sanctioned in the country, 6.1 lakh houses were in demand in Telangana. The TRS government, however, sanctioned only 2.03 lakh houses and even those were not completed, he charged.
BJP national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said the BJP lost in the assembly elections as some parties gave perception that it was aligning with TRS. “BJP cannot align with parties like TRS, which are aligned with the Owaisis,” he said.
Taking objection to the language used by TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said KCR must have learned the language from AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, Akbaruddin Owaisi and Rahul Gandhi.
While BJP was going to the public with target of 400-plus seats and ‘Phir ekbar Modi Sarkar’ slogan, Congress and other parties did not have any slogan, he said and added, in Telangana they would get majority seats.
