BJP is only alternative to TRS: P Muralidhar Rao
HYDERABAD: Exuding confidence that BJP will win majority seats in Telangana, party national general secretary P Muralidhar Rao said the saffron party would fill the void in the state left behind by Congress and also encash on the anti-TRS vote.
“Though Congress had got 28% votes in the recent assembly elections, its (Congress) leadership failed to give confidence to the people that it is an alternative to the ruling TRS. As a result, many senior Congress leaders are looking to BJP,” he said.
Interacting with the media on ‘Modi’s re-election and BJP’s national agenda’ on Tuesday, the BJP leader said both TRS and Congress were family parties and the pink party’s ideology was the same as that of the grand old party but with a regional flavour.
Muralidhar Rao said various surveys, including the party’s internal surveys, indicated that BJP on its own would get 300 seats this election. But he was non-committal on the number of seats BJP would secure in the southern part of the country. Muralidhar Rao, who is also in charge of Karnataka, said the party would get 22 seats, against 17 seats it won in 2014 in Karnataka. With regard to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, he said the party would get ‘majority’ of the seats.
