This Lok Sabha elections, Team DMK is the richest
CHENNAI: Though the Congress’s Kanyakumari candidate, H Vasanthkumar, is the richest, DMK nominees average the maximum
The average value of DMK candidates’ assets is Rs25.91 crore, followed by that of BJP candidates at Rs21.59 crore, according to an analysis of the nominations by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR).
Of the 24 candidates contesting on the DMK symbol, 23 are crorepatis but the average is high as some of them are also big businessmen – such as S Jagathrakshagan, who has shown total assets of Rs114 crore, and the independent contesting on the DMK symbol, T R Parivendhar, with declared assets of Rs97.27 crore.
"The main reason for the DMK having the highest average is also due to the presence of second generation party candidates. Many of them are doctors, engineers and other professionals and their income is high. Some of our alliance party candidates are also big businessmen. In all these cases the income is high and due to that the assets are also high," said DMK spokesperson T K S Elangovan.
In the AIADMK, all the candidates contesting are crorepaties and their assets average Rs14 crore. Of the 845 candidates, the ADR has analysed affidavits of 802 — there are 184 crorepaties and most of them belong to registered and recognised parties.
The top two are Vasantkumar, who has declared Rs417 crore in assets, and the AMMK candidate in South Chennai E Subaya, with Rs237 crore.
A total of 101 candidates have criminal cases against them. Congress and PMK have 50% of their candidates with criminal cases followed by DMK with 46%.
There are 15 candidates who are crorepatis but have not declared income details.

Police in search of thieves and criminals don’t break into locked houses. They identify suspects and when proof is got (because suspicion is no proof), suspects become accused liable for prosecution in a court of law. DMK, while in power in the Centre (as part of UPA) and in TN, stole public funds meant for the poor and the helpless like Lalu Prasad stole and ate the animals’ food - money. DMK is today, unofficially, the richest political party in India having acquired this wealth not by voluntary donations but by means more foul than fair. It is now unapologetically, unabashedly, desperate to grab power in TN through ‘currency for vote’ since, morally, it has lost all credibility and relevance after its chief, the King of Corruption, MK’s death. MK’s entire rule was derided as “corrupt”. Their sunshine is surrendering to darkness and doom like its alliance partner Congress is descending to extinction, after this election. When the stolen money is in billions, it is perfectly in order for our I. T. Dept. to search and seize the amount wherever stashed, in India / abroad, and demand accounts therefor. Evidence of ill gotten wealth may be concealed or destroyed as the accused DMK Central Minister A. Raja so brazenly did in 2G spectrum case, and escaped. He even drove his aide, a key witness, to suicide. It’s a matter of time before, as they say, the long arm of law reaches them. It would be a mistake for the media to infer that only DMK is being targeted or discriminated against, for search by EC and the IT Dept. There is enough clinching evidence against them. Why is there a hue and cry if they are confident of no wrongdoing ?. Read allPost comment
