Lok Sabha elections: Babulal Gaur dares Digvijaya to support Ram temple

on Thursday took a dig at Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s ‘I am a staunch Hindu’ statement, daring him to announce his support to build Ram Temple in Ayodhya if he is one.


“Digvijaya visited five temples and a shrine a day before launching his poll campaign in Bhopal. He also announced that he is a true and a staunch Hindu, but his love for temples emerges only during elections. If he is Hindu, then he must announce his support to build Ram temple in Ayodhya,” Gaur told TOI.

Gaur, seen by many as a close friend and admirer of Digvijaya Singh, also attacked the Congress for “colouring its campaign saffron”.

“I doubt Congress minister Arif Aqueel’s statement that Digvijaya Singh is a true Hindu. Who is he to certify Digvijaya? How much does he know about Hindu religion? Unless Shankaracharya Swaroopanand or Adi Shankaracharya confirm Digvijaya as a Hindu and ensure that he will come forward to construct Ram temple in Ayodhya, we will not agree to his claim,” said the BJP veteran.

On Wednesday, Digvijaya had said: “I am a staunch Hindu and RSS is a Hindu outfit. So why does it have ill-feeling towards me? Mujhse kya bair hai?” He has visited temples and sought blessings from Jain seer Acharya Vidyasagar, Shankaracharya Swaroopanand and Mahant Chandrama Das Tyagi of Gufa Mandir over the past two days.

BJP says it’s all a show ahead of election. Former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan joined Gaur in criticising Digvijaya and Congress. “Congress leaders’ temple run is seen only during elections. The party never supported construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya and now all the leaders are calling themselves ‘staunch Hindus’, appealing to Hindus to vote for them,” said Chouhan.
