Voting is under way for seven seats, including Betul in
District collector Tarun Pithode said, "One of the permitted symbols is blackboard with a wooden stand. In schools there are painted boards. Instructions have been issued to remove the boards which are mounted on wooden stands from the schools. There is no need to do anything for wall mounted boards."
An independent candidate, Bhagcharan Warkade, was allotted the symbol of board mounted on wooden stand. Later, representatives of some political parties objected to it saying that as per the norms, no symbol of a party or candidate should be placed in 100- meter radius of polling booth and as all the polling booths have been set up in schools, so blackboard being symbol of one of the candidates, should be removed, said sources.
