INDORE: The district election office has cancelled 36 armed licences since their holders failed to deposit the firearms after model of conduct came into effect. Also, a weapon allegedly used in a crime incident, has been confiscated.
“There are total 9457 gun licence holders in Indore. The district election office had asked 8406 of them to deposit their firearms at respective police station.
But, of them, 36 failed to surrender their guns. Licence of eight more firearm holders will be cancelled if they fail to deposit their weapons in near future,” ADM Ajaydeo Sharma told TOI.
Police have seized over 200 firearms, cartridges and other weapons after announcement of general election schedule by Election Commission on March 10. Flying squad and static surveillance team have caught cash to the tune of Rs 49.91 lakh, ADM Dinesh Jain said.
