Lok Sabha elections 2019: BJP's Prahlad Patel lodges 'fake news' complaint with EC
BHOPAL
: The BJP candidate from Damoh, Prahlad Singh Patel, has lodged a complaint of 'fake news' with the Election Commission. In his complaint sent to the district election officer, he said that fake news is being made viral on social media platforms, which is tarnishing his image.While registering the complaint, Prahlad referred to a news clip being made viral on social media. He said that the clip referred to a newspaper report published 5 years back in the last
Lok Sabha
elections and has no relevance now. "Even then when the news item was carried, I had lodged a complaint against it. This would create caste conflict in the elections", he told the local media.BJP sources claimed that a section of local BJP leaders were behind the social media campaign. "Prahlad faces more threat from the people within BJP at the moment and not from those who are from the Congress or other parties", they claimed.
Prahlad in his complaint urged the Election Commission to initiate action against people who are behind the mischievous campaign.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has registered a complaint against Prahlad for the violation of model code of conduct.
Prahlad is charged with distributing printed materials without any print line and other details related to works done by him in the constituency. He allegedly distributed it in a press conference.
