INDORE: The district election office has registered an FIR against a man after his video urging people to cast vote for Congress candidate Pankaj Sanghvi and ‘shoot’ Sindhis went viral on Wednesday.
“Taking cognizance of the video we have complained against the man Shreyas Jhawar as this act is violation of model code of conduct. The district election officer Lokesh Kumar Jatav has sent a letter to local police, who in turn, have lodged a case against him for inciting a community to commit an offence against other and disobeying order duly promulgated by public servant under sections 505 and 188 of the IPC.
He has also been booked under sections 125 (corrupt practices and electoral offences) and 123(2) (undue influence) of the Representation of the People Act,” Media Certification and Monitoring Committee nodal officer Neha Meena said.
Meena added that they had also approached state election office to remove the video from social medial platforms.
By evening, Jhawar released another video on social media platforms seeking apology for his comments on Sindhi community. “I am in USA. I wanted to say all Sindhi brothers in Indore that a video released by me had some abusive words for them and it has hurt their sentiments. The video was not meant to hurt any community. Please, forgive me, I am sorry,” Jhawar said in his second video. Local Congress wing distanced itself from the entire episode. “Congress does not support comments showed in the video of Jhawar. He is not a member of Congress. The video is meant to defame Congress and we will lodge a complaint,” a statement released by MPCC spokesperson Vivek Khandelwal reads.
