"We have informed the chief electoral officer's office and a notice has been issued to BJP candidate Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur. She has been asked to submit her reply within 24 hours," Bhopal collector Sudam Khade told TOI.

The EC's video surveillance teams had reported Pragya's remark to the CEO. Pragya had made the comment at an event in Bhopal North assembly segment. Once the model code is in force, every political meeting needs the EC's permission, which comes with a set of restrictions.

In the notice, the district election officer has noted that her statement violates the conditions under which permission was granted to her. EC rule book says no disrespectful language should be used and nothing that can hurt the sentiments of any religion. EC has also sought clarification from Pragya on violation of CrPC Section 144.
