Digvijaya's saffron roadshow: Cops on duty made to wear colour-coded scarves

BHOPAL: Controversy erupted just before Digvijaya Singh's saffron roadshow on Wednesday when there were allegations that plain clothes police personnel were seen in the crowd, wearing saffron scarves. DIG-

Bhopal

Irshad Wali denied that any of them were cops. "They were volunteers of the organisers (of the rally). They had given them to us so that they could identify the participants, if required. In such a big event, it's normal. We had no say in whatever they were wearing," he told TOI.

News agency ANI had quoted an alleged policewoman in plainclothes as saying: "We are here on duty for a road show by Computer Baba. We have been made to wear this." Asked who had made them wear "saffron gamchhas", she didn't give any name, said the ANI report.

Hitesh Bajpai, spokesperson for BJP's Bhopal candidate

Pragya Thakur

said they will complain to Election Commission. "Policemen and women were forced to put on saffron cloth around their neck and participate in the roadshow, which is against democratic norms and violation of

Model Code of Conduct

," he told TOI. Congress spokesperson, JP Dhanopia denied the allegation.
