Congress names Vyapam accused star campaigner
BHOPAL: Gulab Singh Kirar, an accused in the Vyapam scam, was on Wednesday named as the Congress’ star campaigner, leaving a section of the party shell-shocked.
Kirar, a relative of former CM Shivraj Chouhan, had joined Congress just before the assembly elections last year in the presence of AICC president Rahul Gandhi.
The very next day, Congress had denied that he was given primary membership.
On Wednesday, however, his name was on AICC’s list of 40 star campaigners, along with Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Even as Pradesh Congress leaders evaded questions on Kirar, state media committee chief Shobha Oza said, “Gulab Singh Kirar has been given clean chit by Supreme Court in the Vyapam case.”
Vyapam whistleblower Ashish Chaturvedi said, “SC has not given Kirar any clean chit. To dilute the case, CBI has given him the clean chit, saying money for admission to pre-PG was given by his son and not him.”
