BHOPAL: State Congress on Wednesday met chief electoral officer BL Kantarao and demanded that all publicity and broadcasting of biopic, “PM Narendra Modi” be suspended. A delegation of the state Congress headed by the party’s media cell coordinator Shobha Oza met Kantarao and submitted a complaint letter. Congress alleged that
Election Commission of India (ECI) has banned screening of the film based on the life of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi, but its traitors continue to be broadcasted through television channels, cineplexes and multiplexes.
“The ECI using its powers under section 324 has banned screening and publicity of the film. “PM Narendra Modi” based on the life of the Prime Minister,” the Congress’ complaint letter said.
“When the country is about to go through its Lok Sabha elections and Model Code of Conduct is in effect, then screening or publicity of such a film intended to benefit a political party or person, is not only unconstitutional but also open violation of Model Code of Conduct,” the state Congress alleged.
Congress’ complaint said that BJP leaders and the party was engaged in publicising the film with the aim of garnering benefits during elections. The Congress delegation urged that the trailers and all other publicity material of the film be suspended by the EC in Madhya Pradesh and the rest of the country. “Screening and broadcasting of trailers should be stopped,” they argued.
“We are not just hopeful but believe that taking cognizance of matter, you will take decisive action and ensure suspending all publicity of the film so that there can be free and fair elections,” the Congress’ letter said.
