Eight seats in the Malwa-Nimar region go for polling in the final phase of Lok Sabha polling due on May 19. The seats are Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Ratlam, Khandwa, Khargone, Dhar and Mandsaur.

This will be the first time when Priyanka Gandhi will be canvassing for Congress party in Madhya Pradesh. Her itinerary from AICC headquarters in New Delhi reached state Congress office on Friday morning. PCC media department chairperson Shobha Oza said that Priyanka Gandhi will reach Indore around noon on Monday. “From Indore she will reach Ujjain by helicopter at 12:40 pm and visit Mahakal temple for darshan,” Oza said.

She will fly from Ujjain for Ratlam at 2 pm and then address a public meeting in the tribal reserved seat where Congress has fielded five time-MP Kantilal Bhuria. After the election campaign meeting, the Congress national general secretary will fly back to Indore to hold a roadshow, which is known to be one of the toughest seats for the Congress party which last won this seat in 1985.

For the past 30 years, Indore elected BJP’s eight times MP and Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Congress kept losing the constituency. However, Sumitra Mahajan this time has stepped-down and BJP fielded local leader Shankar Lalwani. Congress gave its ticket to Pankaj Sanghvi who contested the 1998 Lok Sabha elections against Sumitra Mahajan from the same seat and lost by 49,000 votes.
