Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Sumalatha meets Krishna to plot Mandya candidature

Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Sumalatha meets Krishna to plot Mandya candidature
STRATEGISING: Sumalatha and SM Krishna on Friday
BENGALURU: Sumalatha Ambareesh, who is keeping everyone guessing on whether she will contest from Mandya constituency against chief minister HD Kumarswamy’s son Nikhil, continued to garner support from leading voices from the district on Friday.
Sumalatha met former Union minister and BJP leader SM Krishna in Bengaluru to ascertain his views on her possible decision to contest as an independent candidate.
There are rumours that she could try her luck as a BJP candidate, but Sumalatha hinted she would not seek the BJP ticket.
Responding to queries on the possibility of contesting from Mandya, Sumalatha said she will take a final call on Monday. She accused the Congress of letting its party workers and leaders down by not fielding a candidate from Mandya. “They all (workers and leaders) fear Congress might get wiped out in the district because of this decision,” she told reporters.
Sumalatha said she met Krishna not only for political reasons, but also to seek his blessings since he was a fatherly figure and political guru of her husband. Referring to Sumalatha as a family friend, Krishna said: “She explained the situation prevailing in Mandya constituency. I will revert to her after discussing with the party leadership.”
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters in Chamarajanagar, KPCC chief Dinesh Gundurao said Mandya constituency has been ceded to the JD(S). “I will speak to Sumalatha about it,” he said.
