Jammu activist urges CEC to expedite action against Mehbooba over ‘seditious’ tweet
JAMMU: A Jammu-based social activist has appealed to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, Sunil Arora, to expedite his complaint against former CM Mehbooba Mufti for violating Model Code of Conduct (MCC) with her ‘seditious’ tweet, ahead of the third phase of Lok Sabha elections. Mehbooba is one of the contenders from Anantnag Lok Sabha seat.

Khajuria stated that Mehbooba’s tweet is blatantly ‘seditious’ threatening unity and integrity of the country. “Mehbooba … tweeted on April 8, 2019: ‘Why waste time in court. Wait for BJP to scrap Article 370. It will automatically debar us from fighting elections since Indian constitution won’t be applicable to J&K anymore. Na samjho gay tou mit jaouge aye Hindustan walo. Tumhari dastaan tak bhi na hogi dastaano main’.”
In his request to the CEC, Khajuria stated: “Since the first phase of polling in Anantnag constituency is scheduled to take place on April 23 … I would appreciate, if timely and legal action is taken on my complaint.”
Khajuria said, Mehbooba tried to “excite disaffection” towards the government of India, “which is prima facie an offence of
