SHIMLA: With BJP facing the challenge of retaining Mandi parliamentary seat especially after Congress fielded Aashray Sharma, grandson of former Union minister Sukh Ram, Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jai Ram Thakur has intensified attacks on Sukh Ram and his family in his election rallies.
While addressing BJP workers at Sai Galu in Kotli area of Mandi district, Jai Ram Thakur said that for him nation is first while for Sukh Ram it is family first.
He said Sukh Ram is a senior leader, but he should now understand that his time is over now.
Aashray Sharma, son of power minister and BJP MLA from Mandi Anil Sharma, was seeking ticket from the BJP, but the party denied his request fielded sitting MP Ram Swaroop Sharma after which Sukh Ram, along with Aashray Sharma, joined the Congress and the party fielded Aashray Sharma from Mandi.
Since Congress' move to field Ashray Sharma, BJP is making all efforts to retain Mandi seat knowing the impact of Sukh Ram on the voters of constituency. In Mandi, Jai Ram Thakur is leading the BJP campaign and on every platform he is attacking Sukh Ram and family.
“It is very unfortunate instead of Mandi’s pride that Sukh Ram is giving preference to his family’s pride. At this age of life, Sukh Ram has put the future of his son and grandson at stake. He should have stopped the trend of changing parties as his own partymen (Congress) are describing him as Aaya Ram and Gaya Ram,” he said.
He said that Sukh Ram is claiming that BJP’s historic victory in assembly election was because of him and his misunderstanding will be over in this parliamentary election. He said that Sukh Ram’s son Anil Sharma had won the assembly election just because of the fact that he was contesting on BJP ticket.
He said that being a BJP member, Anil Sharma should perform his moral duty and should work for BJP in the election. He said that Anil Sharma in an interview said he wanted his son to start his political career from Congress. “Then why did he seek ticket from us,” he added.
