Lok Sabha elections: Navsari woman candidate arrested for cheating
SURAT: A woman candidate contesting from Navsari Lok Sabha constituency was arrested by police from an area under the limits of Puna police station in the city on Thursday for her involvement in Rs3.18 crore cheating. The accused woman was produced in a local court which remanded her in police custody for two days. The accused is candidate of Rashtriya Samaj Paksh.
Police arrested Hiramani Sharma, a textile businesswoman, for cheating an embroidery unit owner of Rs3.18 crore. The offence was registered against her in November 2018 by Ishwar Patodiya after she and other three accused failed to make payment to him for the embroidery work done on textile products.
She had approached court earlier seeking anticipatory bail, but it was rejected. Police received information that she was going to her election office in
Sharma was earlier booked in another cheating case of Rs50 lakh in June 2018. She got anticipatory bail, but it was later cancelled by the court, police sources said.
