Vadodara: Sensitive areas turn fortress for election day

VADODARA: As the city goes to polls on Tuesday, the police have turned the

sensitive areas

into fortress. The police department has deployed

heavy security

in the old city and communally sensitive booths apart from the paramilitary forces that have been brought in.


“The entire security arrangements have been made and we are full prepared for the polls. Additional security has been kept at the sensitive booths. I will also be supervising the arrangements on Tuesday,” said Anupam Singh Gahlaut, city police commissioner. The cops will videograph happenings in and around the polling booths apart from installing CCTVs in selected areas.

A separate team of crime branch has been made to keep watch on the notorious elements who have been arrested in the past for poll related offences.

The police had been doing foot patrolling in the old city areas over last three weeks as a confidence building measure among the public. The focus was on the areas where more domination is required. During the patrolling, the cops also checked on history-sheeters, those involved in rioting, assault and rumour mongering in last five years.

District superintendent of police (DSP), Tarun Kumar Duggal said that senior policemen will supervise all the security arrangements and the cops will ensure that the polls pass off peacefully.
