Lok Sabha elections: Suspense over Surat candidates continues
Adding more twist to the ongoing suspense over candidates for Surat
The contest between these candidates may lead to a divide among industrialists, especially the powerful diamond barons of Surat. While BJP circle is abuzz with the name of Madhukeshwar Desai, greatgrandson of former prime minister late Moraraji Desai, as its Lok Sabha candidate for Surat, the Congress is weighing its option to field Ghanshyam Lakhani, a popular folk singer.
Desai, 31, is the former CEO of Mumbai Center for International Arbitration (MCIA) while Lakhani is said to have close ties with many of the leading diamond barons of Surat. Darshana Jardosh, sitting BJP MP and city BJP president Nitin Bhajiyawala are also among the front runners for the seat.
