Lok Sabha elections 2019: Hum kisise kum nahin
Election season brings out the best, and the worst, in our netas. In this election as well, politicians of the state have often crossed the line that defines decent political discourse to trade barbs
Jitu Vaghani
Speaking at a rally in Amroli area of Surat on April 7, state BJP chief Jitu Vaghani referred to Congress leaders as `haramzadas’. “I am cautioning the people. It is time to recognize these `haramzadas’ (bastards). Recognize these people who have evil intent in their minds,” he said. The Congress went to the local court, which has asked the police to probe the matter.
Parshottam Rupala
Speaking on the aerial strike at a rally in Morwa, Union minister Rupala said the Modi government showed what a strong nation does when its soldiers are attacked, but Congress leaders wet their beds even if there is an electricity outage.
Congress leader Babu Raika retorted with an even worse slur against Rupala.
Ganpat Vasava
People say Rahul Gandhi is a reincarnation of Lord Shiva. Shivji would consume poison to rid people of their problems. Give your leader 500 grams of poison and if he survives the general election, we will believe that he is an avatar of Shivji,” said Vasava at Baben village in the Bardoli
But when Rahul Gandhi gets up from a chair he looks like a puppy wagging its tail. A roti thrown by Pakistanis or Chinese will suffice for the puppy,” he said.
Arjun Modhwadia
While speaking at a rally in Deesa town of Banaskantha district, former GPCC chief Arjun Modhwadia referred to PM Narendra Modi as a donkey. Modhwadia said, “A fit person has a chest size of 36 inches, a body builder like the ones we see in the WWE may have a chest size of 42 inches. Only donkeys have a chest size of 56 inches and bulls have a chest size of 100 inches.”
Speaking at a rally of party workers at M N High School at Patan on April 3 before Bharatsinh Dabhi filed his nomination as BJP candidate there, state minister Dilip Thakor said, “Congress leaders want proof of the aerial strikes. They should be tied to the bombs dropped against terror targets.”
Madhu Shrivastava
BJP MLA from Waghodiya in Vadodara, while speaking at a public meeting on April 3, threatened voters who do not intend to vote for the BJP. “I am requesting people of Vaghodia, you must press on the symbol of the lotus on all booths. If you do not press for the BJP symbol, I will show you your place,” he said. Responding to a complaint the election commission issued a warning to Shrivastava.
Mansukh Mandaviya
Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya attacked Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi over comparisons between her and Indira Gandhi, on March 26. He was speaking at a rally in Anand. “Nowadays, there’s talk among Congress leaders that her (Priyanka Gandhi’s) nose is like her grandmother’s. If one’s nose resembling her grandmother’s is a prerequisite, won’t there be a president in each house in China,” he asked.

Vasava crossed the line of decent discourse yet again on Saturday, when he compared Congress president Rahul Gandhi to a puppy. “Our leader stands like a lion. But when Rahul Gandhi gets up from a chair he looks like a puppy wagging its tail.
