poll on Wednesday. Those who submitted their forms included former Union minister and former state Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki.

Solanki who is in the fray from Anand was amongst the first candidates in the state to be given a ticket. He brought out a rally to file his nomination. The rally was also attended by his cousin and Gujarat Congress president Amit Chawda.

In Panchmahal, Congress candidate VK Khant brought out an impressive rally to file his nomination. While Khant had been preparing for the day since quite some time after being asked by the party to gear up for the polls, his name was announced only last week. A couple of BJP members of panchayats in Panchmahal joined the Congress on the day Khant filed his nomination papers.

BJP’s candidate for Chhota Udepur Lok Sabha seat Geeta Rathwa filed her nomination papers on Wednesday in presence of state BJP chief Jitu Vaghani and other local leaders. Chief minister Vijay Rupani addressed a public meeting in Chhota Udepur town before Rathwa filed her nomination papers.

In her affidavit, Rathwa has stated that she has no income source as she works as a homemaker. Rathwa does not even hold any immovable assets but owns movable assets worth Rs 6.07 lakh. She has been a five-time member of the district panchayat. Along with Rathwa, president of BJP’s district unit Jasu Rathwa filed nomination papers as a dummy candidate.
