Technically, Sajanpur is located in

Alirajpur

district of

Madhya Pradesh

, but it is surrounded from all sides by eight villages of Chhota Udepur district. There are 784 registered voters here. Most villages of

Gujarat

are located in a close vicinity, some of them barely few hundred meters away. Though it is located in MP, the village does not figure in the neighbour state’s map, but it’s shown in Gujarat.

“Since childhood, I know that our village has always been part of MP. But nobody knows the reason for it,” said Gamji Kanesh, sarpanch of Sajanpur.

The village got a

gram panchayat

only 20 years back when its population crossed 1,000. Kanesh added that no candidate has ever visited the village and the campaigning is left to party workers only.

Due to the jurisdiction of MP government, the boards in the village are all in Hindi. In fact, the village school which has classes till X standard has Hindi as its medium of instructions.

Kanesh told TOI that despite the geographical detachment, the MP government never gave a step-motherly treatment to the village.
