NEW DELHI: Launching the party’s election campaign from Mangolpur Khurd of northwest Delhi, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari on Sunday targeted both Congress president Rahul Gandhi and chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. “In these elections, there is a contest between two thoughts — one is based on dynastic politics and, the other, on positive thinking and nationalism,” he said.
Commenting on the speculation of a tie-up between AAP and Congress in Delhi, Tiwari slammed Kejriwal for “begging for an alliance”.
He said: “People of Delhi gave Kejriwal a massive mandate, but he is begging for an alliance with Congress, which lost all seats in the assembly election.” Hitting out at the CM over a variety of issues, Tiwari said: “Kejriwal has made Delhi the number one city in pollution and has done nothing for its development. The life expectancy of the people of Delhi has gone down due to rising pollution.”
Tiwari also hit out at Kejriwal over the death of sanitation workers. “Sanitation workers are forced to enter plants without protective gear. Arvind Kejriwal had vowed to provide modern equipment to sanitation workers, but even after four years in office, he has not fulfilled that promise,” Tiwari said, even as he demanded that a criminal case be filed against Kejriwal over the issue.
The election meet, a part of BJP’s “Vijay Sankalp Sabhas”, centred around the call to make Narendra Modi the PM again. “The country has witnessed all-round development in the last five years. Today, there is one favourite name for the post of the prime minister and that is Narendra Modi’s. Everybody wants Modi government once more,” Tiwari said, while welcoming a local leader, Ghanshyam Tanwar, into BJP fold.
BJP MP from northwest, Udit Raj, claimed that 10 railway overbridges were constructed in his constituency to solve the problem of traffic jams and pollution. He accused AAP government of obstructing the construction of such bridges in Ghewada, Kirari and Narela.
At an event in south Delhi, he said he had undertaken projects for the people’s welfare, including improvement of lakes, setting up of dispensaries, laying colony roads, etc.
