on Tuesday evening. Raghav Chadha, AAP candidate from South Delhi, came to the stage with actors Gul Panag and Prakash Raj. They were joined by spokespeople from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Young Indian National Coordination Community.

After some songs by a student band, Chadha told the gathering, “The whole idea of India is in trouble. What we thought it could and would be is very different from what it is.” He alleged that the institutions that have been destroyed by the current government could not be revived even as the country’s democracy and constitution were in dire need of protection.

“You gave Congress a chance, you gave BJP a chance, now we deserve a chance,” Chadha said. “Kaam ke naam par vote maangte hain hum, Ram ke naam par nahi (We ask for you votes on the basis of our work, not in a God’s name).”

Panag too criticised the BJP-led government, saying, “We need equitable access to health and education, but this government has not worked towards that.” She noted that if we were still being forced to fight for our basic amenities in 2019, then it meant the country needed major changes. “Voting is not only your right, it is your duty,” she urged the people.

Raj was greeted with loud cheers and he was applauded loudly when he said, “Employment is not just for your hand and mouth to meet, it is your language, it is your relevance.” He then characterised the RSS during colonial days as “British bootlickers”. To louder acclaim, he concluded, “Kejriwal is an idea, an idea of the future and I am with him and AAP.”

The candidate then led the gathering to Kalkaji and Nehru Place amid youthful songs and slogans.
