Gautam Gambhir’s range of strokes: DU campus in East, focus on landfill
NEW DELHI: BJP candidate Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday
The cricketer-turned-politician said: “The Ghazipur landfill is the first aspect I will look into. I will develop it into a ‘fashioned’ park. We will also focus on cleanliness and beautification of Yamuna ghats…Useful disposal of waste will be a focus area too. While the corporation is working on this, the lack of financial resources is a hindrance. We will bring in special funds from the urban development ministry.”
Gambhir stressed on making east Delhi greener. “I want every family to plant one tree each and raise it like their own offspring, instead of planting hundreds and then forgetting about them. We’ll work on a greener Delhi with smaller meaningful efforts.”
The cricketer said he wanted to set up an East Delhi campus for Delhi University. “Travelling is an issue for students. We have the Guru Gobind University in our constituency and we will build more, so that it’s easier for students to study and they don’t have to travel long distance.”
He then talked about developing the Yamuna Sports Complex. “I come from the field of sports and realise that there is a scarcity of land. We plan to develop the Yamuna Sports Complex and have IPL matches there too. If IPL matches are held in Yamuna Sports Complex as well, East Delhi will be the only constituency where there will be two international-level fields.”
He batted for PM Narendra Modi and said BJP had changed the politics in the country over the past five years. “BJP is different from other parties, because our ‘soch’ is different, very different from other parties. We don’t accuse individuals or other political parties to win elections. We do politics differently; we don’t believe in negative politics because the country has risen above it,” he said.
