: The Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) on Wednesday condemned BJP national president
Amit Shah's recent statement to bring back the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, if the party is voted to power again.
Terming Shah's remarks "unacceptable and against the sentiments of the people of the northeast," the ACS alleged that the bill, which BJP is trying to bring to weed out illegal migrants from
Assam, will result in flooding of illegal Bangladeshis. It said the passage of the bill will adversely affect not only the demography of the entire northeast, but also the culture and identity of people.
Describing the BJP president's statement as an insult to the sentiments of the people of the northeast, it asked all political parties, leaders, student unions and intellectuals to 'stand united against such evil designs of BJP to destroy the northeast." "The ACS has opposed the bill from the very beginning and will leave no stone unturned to make sure it does not get passed in future," said ACS chairman Patey Tayum.
