LUCKNOW: Making a claim for PM’s post for the first time, BSP president
Mayawati on Wednesday said she was a “fit” candidate when it came to matters pertaining to welfare of people and the country while Prime Minister
Narendra Modi was “unfit” for the top post.
“As far as development goes, BSP has managed to change the face of UP. Lucknow was beautified to a great extent. On the basis of all this work, it can be assumed that for the welfare of people and the country, BSP national president is fit and in comparison with her, Narendra Modi is unfit,” Mayawati said in a statement.
Elaborating on her achie- vements, Mayawati said her legacy as a four-time CM was clean, pro-people and aimed at development and better law and order. “People still praise my regime. Though Modi has been
Gujarat
CM for a longer period than my regime as UP CM, his legacy is only that of communal strife which is a black mark on the country’s history,” she said.
Mayawati emphasized that while UP was free of riots while she was CM, there was only “violence,
anarchy
and hate-festering under Modi” when he ruled Gujarat and the country. “He has, therefore, failed in holding a government post. As Gujarat CM, he has failed to implement rajdharma and has been unfit as a CM and PM,” she said.
Reacting to opponents calling her “daulat ki beti” and accusing her of amassing wealth, Mayawati said such statements only reflected the anti-Dalit attitude of such leaders as they didn’t want people from oppressed castes to progress. “The entire country knows that most of the corrupt people who have benami properties are associated with BJP,” she said.
She added that BSP has empowered the deprived communities and made them “dene wala” (giver) from “le- ne wala” (taker). She said the money and property accumulated in BSP’s movement was their contribution.
“Modi doesn’t feel ashamed of calling BSP ‘Behenji ki sampatti party’ even while the legacy of BSP founder
Kanshi Ram
is that of struggle, like that of Dr BR Ambedkar. Whatever Mayawati has, it has been given by the community and her well-wishers,” she said, adding BJP had tried to defame her in several ways over the past five years.
