PATNA: An FIR was lodged in Jehanabad district on Friday against
RJD candidates Mundrika Singh Yadav and Subedar Das who were allegedly seen accepting bribe in a sting operation recently.
This was the second FIR in connection with the sting operation. An FIR was earlier lodged in Patna district against Awadhesh Prasad Kushwaha, a minister in the Nitish Kumar cabinet and JD (U) candidate from Pipra constituency in East Champaran.
Just hours after the sting video went viral on the social media, the minister resigned on Sunday. The JD (U) has since changed its candidate for Pipra.
Jehanabad district election officer-cum-district magistrate Manoj Kumar Singh told TOI an explanation regarding the video was sought from Mundrika and Subedar who are contesting from Jehanabad and Makhdumpur assembly segments respectively. “We found their explanation unsatisfactory,” Singh said, adding another person seen in the video has also been made accused in the case.
In one of the videos, Kushwaha was seen allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh from a businessman from Mumbai. In the second video, the two RJD candidates were seen allegedly taking Rs 1 lakh. Sources said the two RJD candidates had been asked to explain why they were accepting cash, from whom and for what purpose.
RJD national spokesman Manoj Jha said the party would take action against the two if they are found guilty. “Till the time they are proved guilty, the party will not take any action.”
