PATNA: In their bright green and pink salwar kameez, conjoined twins Saba and Farah made a unique first-time voter. All dressed up for the occasion, eyes lined with kohl and bangles on their wrists, the enthusiastic girls walked into booth number 89 at Samanpura on Madrassa Road in Patna’s Digha assembly constituency to cast a single vote. The excitement “akin to that during Eid festivities”; their only regret not being able to vote separately.
Saba and Farah have a common artery and EC has enrolled them as a single voter by the name Saba Farah. The two have been in the news earlier, having drawn the attention of the medical fraternity and several wellwishers including actor Salman Khan. The twins turned 18 this January.
Though born in 1997, their ID has 1990 as year of birth. They are least bothered about this. “We pressed the button together,” chuckled the eversmiling twins although they would have ideally liked to choose their own candidates.
“Their ID card mentions their two names as one — Saba Farah,” said the sisters’ elder brother Mohd Tamanna. Though EC robbed them of “our own vote”, the sisters played the poll panel’s ambassador as they urged everyone to exercise their franchise. “Choosing the right candidate is very important for all of us… nothing can be more important than contributing to forming a good government,” Saba said as Farah nodded.
