Bharatiya Janata Party
- The country's largest political party in terms of representation in the Parliament and state assemblies, the Bharatiya Janata party has for long been identified as having close ideological and organisational links with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. However, it has tried very hard to reinvent itself on the line of development politics.
- For long, the party's key issue has been the rebuilding of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code. However, the 1998-2004 NDA government, instead, focused on a largely neoliberal economic policy prioritising globalisation and economic growth over social welfare. And, this is what is reflected in its manifestoes across states which are going for polls in 2017.
- BJP's strategy for Uttarakhand includes a big outreach to the Dalit Community, which can influence results in as many as 20 constituencies. Apart from this, the influx of several heavyweights from Congress rather than improving its gravity in the state seems to have made way for infighting within its ranks. Apart from demonetisation-based fight against black money, corruption and playing the surgical strike card, the strategy of the party isn't much clear yet.
