LUCKNOW: The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) candidate Abbas Ansari is likely to register a win against the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from the Mau Assembly seat.
Abbas Ansari, the son of mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, is leading by over 37,000 votes against BJP's Ashok Kumar Singh.
The SBSP is contesting the
Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in alliance with the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP).
As per the latest trends shared by the Election Commission at 4:10pm, Ansari has secured 88,343 votes, while Singh has got 50,635 votes.
Earlier this month, Ansari was also booked for violating the model code of conduct after a video of him purportedly threatening government officials during an election meeting went viral on social media.

Mau went to the polls in the seventh and last phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on March 7.
Mukhtar Ansari had been representing the seat since 1996 but he is currently in jail as he is facing trial in a number of cases.
