Sikkim assembly elections: Bhaichung Bhutia's party proposes universal basic income
KOLKATA: Bhaichung Bhutia’s Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) has proposed a universal basic income of Rs 90,000 for every family of five members which will be increased progressively depending on the cost of living index if voted to power in the state.
Bhutia who is fighting the assembly elections from two constituencies including Gangtok announced the Sikkimey samman Yojna on Tuesday.
"Every member of the family will receive Rs 1,500 every month. The scheme will also include even those who are working but do not earn enough to support their families. Funds will be provided through budgetary allocation," said Bhutia. Sikkim will vote for the Lok Sabha and assembly election on April 11.
