BHUBANESWAR: As widely anticipated, the BJP fielded senior leader Bijoy Mohapatra from Patkura assembly segment.
Bijoy, who had resigned from BJP in November last year and staged a comeback last week, has represented Patkura four times in the state assembly. He had unsuccessfully fought the 2014 poll from Mahakalpada. “I have good support base in Patkura.
I will try my best to work the way the party want me to do,” Mohapatra said.
Bijoy’s main rival in Patkura will be BJD’s Bedprakash Agarawalla, a six-time MLA who represented the segment in the past two terms.
In BJP's fifth list of 11 candidates on Monday, actor-turned politician Aparajita Mohanty figures as BJP’s Bhubaneswar North MLA candidate. Aparajita had unsuccessfully fought the 2014 Lok Sabha election on Congress ticket.
The party named Alok Sethi as its candidate for Anandapur as its nominee announced earlier Bhagirathi Sethi, defected to the BJD and managed the regional party ticket from the seat.
Jayanta Sarangi, former chairman of Puri municipality who left the BJD and joined the BJP on Sunday, was named BJP’s Puri assembly candidate. Other MLA candidates announced by BJP include Naba Charan Majhi (Rairangpur), Krushna Chandra Mohapatra (Morada), Sukanta Nayak (Nilgiri), Bhagirathi Pradhan (Athamallik), Subhranshu Sekhar Padhi (Banki), Brajendra Ray (Athagarh) and Bijay Pradhan (Mahakalpada).
