Shirahatti assembly constituency is one of the 224 constituencies of the Karnataka legislative assembly.

It is part of Gadag district and is reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes.

It is one of the four vidhan sabha constituencies in Gadag district in the state. Other constituencies in the district include Gadag, Ron, and Naragund. It is also part of Haveri Lok Sabha constituency along with seven other assembly segments namely Gadag, Ron, Hangal, Haveri, Byadgi, Hirekerur and Ranibennur.

In 2018 assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Ramappa Lamani won the vidhan sabha seat by defeating Congress's Doddamani Ramakrishna Shidlingappa.

Lamani secured 91,967 votes whereas Shidlingappa got 61974 votes.

In 2018, Shirahatti had 2,12,260 electors.

The next assembly elections in the southern state will be held in a single phase on May 10.

The counting of votes will be done on May 13.

The term of the 224-member Karnataka assembly ends on May 24.

The poll fight is mainly between BJP, Congress and JDS in the state.

BJP will announce the list of candidates in the first week of April.

In 2018 assembly polls, Bahujan Samaj Party secured 1 seat, Bharatiya Janata Party won 104 seats , Independent 1, Indian National Congress claimed 79, Janata Dal (Secular) 37 whereas Karnataka Pragnyavantha Janatha won 1.

The last state assembly election was held on May 12, 2018, after which a coalition government was formed by the JD(S) and Congress. The coalition was led by HD Kumaraswamy as the chief minister.

However, in July 2019, the coalition government fell apart as several members of the Congress and JD (S) resigned from the assembly, leading to the formation of a new government by the BJP. BS Yediyurappa became the new chief minister.

On July 26, 2021, Yediyurappa resigned from his position as chief minister, and Basavaraj Bommai took over the reins on July 28, 2021.
