Jamkhandi Constituency Election Results: Assembly seat details, MLAs, candidates & more

Jamkhandi assembly seat is one of the 224 constituencies in Karnataka. It is part of Bagalkot Lok Sabha constituency, which came into existence in 1967, being first represented by freedom fighter Sanganagouda Basanagouda Patil. Currently the Lok Sabha seat is being held by Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gaddigoudar Parvatagouda Chandanagouda who had won with a margin of 1,68,187 votes in 2019. He had defeated Veena Kashappanavar of the Congress.

The assembly seat is currently held by the Congress. During the last May 2018 elections, sitting Congress MLA Siddu Bhimappa Nyamagouda (1950-2018), also known as Barrage Siddu, was elected from Jamakhandi constituency. He had secured a total of 49,245 votes, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party candidate and former MLA Kulkarni Shrikant Subrao who had received 46,450 votes. The victory margin was just 2,795 votes. But the former MLC and minister of state for coal died the same year, following which a bypoll was held in November.

The bypoll was won by his son Anand Siddu Nyamagouda on a Congress ticket by defeating Subrao, this time with a whopping margin of 39,480 votes.

In 2013, Nyamagouda had won this seat by securing total 49,145 votes, defeating Independent candidate Jagadish Gudagunti. The Independent candidate had received a total of 27,993 votes, while the victory margin was 21,152 votes.

In 2008, however, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Subbrao had won this seat by securing a total of 59,930 votes, defeating Congress’s Siddu Nyamagouda. The Congress candidate had received total 40,240 votes, being defeated by a margin of 19,690 votes.

In 2018, the Jamkhandi legislative assembly constituency had a total of 2,03,821 electors.
