Byndoor is one of the 224 assembly constituencies of Karnataka which is going to polls on May 10. It is part of Udupi district.

In 2018 elections, BJP's B. M. Sukumar Shetty won the seat and became the MLA by defeating Congress candidate K. Gopala Poojary with a margin of 24,393 votes.
The BJP candidate secured 96,029 votes while Congress' Poojary received 71,636 votes.
In this year’s polls, the Byndoor constituency will see a contest between BJP's Gururaj Gantihole and Congress' Poojary.
There are a total of 224 seats in Karnataka. It is the seventh-largest legislative assembly by strength.
In the 2018 assembly polls, the state threw up a fractured mandate with BJP emerging as the single largest party with 104 seats. The Congress won 87 seats while the JD(S) won 30.
The BJP managed to form the government only after several MLAs from the ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition joined the saffron party.
The BJP faces anti-incumbency in a state where no party has won consecutive terms in over 20 years. The Congress is banking on BJP’s “incumbency burden” and is confident that the corruption charges against its opponent Basavaraj Bommai will stick.
The election results will be declared on May 13.
