Bailhongal assembly constituency is one of the 224 constituencies in Karnataka and part of Belagavi Lok Sabha seat.

Bailhongal assembly constituency was won by the Congress in 2018. Koujalagi Mahantesh Shivanand had won the seat by defeating Jagdish Channappa Metgud, an Independent candidate, with a margin of 5,122 votes. Shivanand had secured a total of 47,040 votes while Metgud received 41,918 votes.

The Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency, however, is held by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Angadi Suresh Channabasappa had won with a margin of 3,91,304 votes by defeating Dr Sadhunavar of the Congress.

In 2013, the Bailhongal legislative assembly constituency was won by Karnataka Jantha Paksha candidate Dr Vishwanath Iranagouda Patil by securing total 40,709 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Jagadish C Metgud stood second with a total of 37,088 votes, being defeated by a margin of 3,621 votes.

The 2008 and previous 2004 elections were similar with the BJP candidate defeating the Congress nominee.

In 2008, the Bailhongal legislative assembly constituency was won by sitting Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Jagadish Virupakshi C Metgud by securing a total of 48,988 votes. Congress candidate Koujalagi Mahantesh Shivanand stood second with total 39,748 votes, being defeated by 9,240 votes.

In 2004, Metgud had secured a total of 48,208 votes, defeating Congress candidate Shivanand by a whopping 11,575 votes. Shivanand had received total 36,633 votes.
