Aurad is one of the 224 assembly constituencies of the poll-bound Karnataka. This falls under Bidar Lok Sabha constituency.

In 2018, this constituency was won by the Bharatiya Janata Party, when Prabhu Chauhan of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the seat by defeating Vijaykumar of the Indian National Congress by a margin of 10,592 votes.

Candidates in fray for the 2023 assembly election are Jaysingh Rathore of the JD(S), Baburao Adke of the Aam Aadmi Party, Dr Shinde Bhimsen Rao of the Indian National Congress, and Prabhu Chavan of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Prabhu B Chavan of the BJP won against Dhanaji Bheema Jadhav of the KJP by 23,191 votes in 2013. Prabhu Chavhan defeated Narsingrao Suryawanshi of the Indian National Congress in 2008 by a margin of 27,778 votes.

Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli of the Indian National Congress defeated JD(S) candidate Gundappa Vakil in 2004 by 11,321 votes. Gundappa Vakil was fielded by the BJP in 1999 and he defeated Nagamarapalli by 2,785 votes. Nagamarapalli fought the election for the JD in 1994 and he won against Shekhar Patil of the Congress.

The seat was won by Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli in 1989 against IND's Bapurao Patil. The winning vote margin was 14,514.

While the JNP won the seat in 1985, the Congress won in 1983 and 1978. While the IND won from the seat in 1972, the INC won in 1967.

The assembly election 2023 in the state to elect all 224 members of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly are scheduled to be held on May 10. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on May 13.
